Ruthanne Peterson, 72, of Reinbeck & Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center in Reinbeck while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be directed to the family where they will donate to a charity of their choice at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com

Ruthanne was born on July 3, 1942 in Pocahontas County, Iowa, the daughter of Dale M. & Anne E. (Larson) Peterson. She grew up in Laurens, Iowa, where she attended school, graduating in 1960. She then went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines and later Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. She met Cordell Peterson and the two were married in December 1961 and later divorced. They welcomed three children into their family and the family moved to Reinbeck in 1963. Ruthanne worked mostly as a homemaker but went on to work for Rickert-Thompson Law Office in Reinbeck, retiring in 1985. After her retirement, she spent her winters in Cape Coral, FL.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck, where she was part of many women's circles and was a member of the GNB Go Club.

Ruthanne enjoyed traveling all over the world and loved the beach, where she liked to collect seashells and starfish. She enjoyed flowers, plants, gardening and cross stitching. Ruthanne was a good friend to many and cherished her long lasting friendships. What Ruthanne enjoyed most in life was her family. She loved spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a generous heart and spirit and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends she leaves behind.

Ruthanne is survived by her children Mark (Theresa) Peterson of Reinbeck, Cheryl (Gary) VandeVoorde of Maroa, IL & Michael (Julie) Peterson of Reinbeck; 8 grandchildren Tiffany (Kyle) Rasmussen, Nick (Nikkie) Peterson & Brooke Peterson, Erin & Grant VandeVoorde and Elise, Jed & Joshua Peterson; 2 great-grandchildren Izzy & Henrick Peterson; brother David (Lorraine) Peterson of Lakeview, IA and brother-in-law Steve Mustain. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Jean Mustain.
