Laura Lee Johnson, 56, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died on the morning of Sunday, May 17, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Due to COVID-19, to protect the health and safety of all, services are currently being limited as required by state and local authorities and the CDC.
Following Laura’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no public visitation or services held at this time with the Abel’s Funeral Home. The family is planning a gathering of friends and family at a later date Laura will be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford, Iowa. Laura was born on January 2, 1964, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Merlyn and Arlene (Johnson) Albrecht. She was raised and educated in the Cedar Valley, where Laura graduated from Central High School. Later in her life, Laura achieved a certificate as a dental assistant and worked in this field for a few years. Laura became a LPN after attending Hawkeye Community College for a second time and was employed at a local nursing home. She was blessed with three children: Shannon, Matthew, and Jacob. Matthew died at the age of 5. In her spare time she enjoyed “junking” and spending time with her cats, Roy and Sassy. Laura was well known for some of her best recipes...she made amazing macaroni salad and deviled eggs!
Left to cherish Laura’s memory are her children: Shannon (Ben) Wilson of Marion, IA and Jacob Bruch of Cedar Falls, IA.; grandchildren: Olivia, Henry, and Arlo Wilson; parents: Merlyn Albrecht and Arlene Johnson; one sister: Cindy (Patrick) McCarthy; two brothers: Josh Albrecht and Joe (Tresa) Albrecht; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son: Matthew Bruch and her grandparents, who are best known in the family as Mino and Gramps.
